On March 4th 2020, just before COVID-19 precautions kicked in, the Robotics and Automation Emerging Technologies Interest Group (RAETIG) conducted their first site visit for the year to Electrolux.

Electrolux is a global leader in appliances. Twenty Eight enthusiastic members, representing manufacturers, equipment suppliers, integrators, educators, and university students were given an interesting tour of the facilities.

The three tour groups were given their own unique sample of robotics applications. These included: the Tandem Press Line (some saw a die change in progress); a variety of metal stamping applications; cooling fan assembly (with vision for finding components and metal clinching); oven making automation; cavity enameling (with a batch size of one); door gluing and assembly; collaborative robots applying labels; and the newly automated packing area.

We’re incredibly grateful to Paul Sakovits, Christian Martin, Chris Henkens, and Atul Badgujar for sharing their tour and especially for the conversation afterwards about the value and impact of automation on the people, and the success of the organisation.
